Upper Mustang Trek is one of the world-famous trekking destinations of Nepal in the northwest part of the country.  The wide and mostly barren land is amazingly beautiful and lies in the rain shadow area formed by Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massive. The region is home to Damodar Kunda and Saaligram so, is holy among both Hinduism and Buddhism followers.
Largely inhabited by Tibetan Buddhists. The region was a separate kingdom till the very recent days and is regarded as an ancient Himalaya kingdom extending to the northern part of Nepal at the top of Kali Gandaki River.

The government of Nepal applies its control region policy for the foreign visitors coming to this region and allows only limited numbers of tourists to enter the region every year.  The region is rich in cultural heritage, ancient caves, farmlands, art, and architecture. The culture and traditions of people in upper Mustang resemble that of Tibet.

Why choose Upper Mustang Trek?

Trekking in the Upper Mustang is a special privilege. Here you will meet the lifestyles of true mountain people, who, for lots of years, had very little contact with the rest of Nepal and managed to retain their wealthy cultural heritage. Until recently, their king was formally recognized by the Government of Nepal.

In many ways, a trek into Upper Mustang is comparable to trekking in Tibet, as geographically it is a part of the Tibetan plateau. The district of Mustang was, till 1950, a separate kingdom inside the boundaries of Nepal. The remaining king, the Raja of Mustang, still resides in the historical capital recognized as Lo Manthang.

Upper Mustang was opened to non-Nepali trekkers only some fifteen years ago and even today the area is very restricted. To enter Upper Mustang, trekkers need a different trekking permit and should be accompanied by a certified guide. The Upper Mustang is unique in every form.
